Introduction
About the Competition
In 2029, Beijing will host the 30th UIA World Congress of Architects. Conceived as a pilot project of the Congress, this international project competition invites young architects from around the world to explore small-scale, high-quality, and low-carbon approaches to urban micro-regeneration.
The project centers on Yongding Chang'an Pavilion, a 200 m² urban pavilion positioned within a 42,000 m² riverfront landscape zone south of New Shougang Bridge in Beijing's Shijingshan District.
Participants are asked to coordinate meso-scale environmental design with micro-scale architecture and interiors, linking the Yongding River waterfront, Winter Olympics Park, Shougang industrial heritage, and nearby cultural memory into a public, accessible, and resilient riverfront experience.
Mission and prospective commission
The competition aims to demonstrate how a precise public architecture can activate industrial heritage, Winter Olympics memory, water conservancy culture, and natural landscape. Upon being awarded the commission, the first-prize winning team shall be responsible for completing the schematic design refinement and design development phases of the project.
